Last week we headed down to the London Coffee Festival on the 6.30 train from Pannal. It was the first time Ellis had been down to the festival and he also announced on the way that it was only his second time ever in London…shocking I know! For me the London Coffee Festival is where it all began for North Star. I attended last years event as a mere civilian, with North Star just an idea in my head. However, after experiencing the festival in its entirety and seeing the amazing things that were happening down in London I left determined to be a part of the growing speciality coffee scene in Leeds.
A couple of weeks before the festival we found out that we had won the caffeine magazine ‘Valentines Blend’ competition and had therefore been given a place on the True Artisan Café on Friday morning. It was a real privilege in our first year to be a part of the festival and to serve our coffee to the masses. We served our Czar Street Seasonal Espresso and we got some fantastic feedback, with people commenting on the fruitiness and complexity of the cup.
It was amazing for us both to head down to the festival this year, with North Star being 6 months old as a business. It was really great to meet other roasters who are pushing the boundaries in London and other parts of the UK, people who we had spoken to on the phone and via email but never actually met in person. I have to say a special thanks to the guys from Nude, Volcano, Small Batch and Dear Green for making the weekend so enjoyable.
All in all we had a brilliant weekend and have come back full of enthusiasm and new ideas..roll on next year!
