We’ve now been open nearly two years, and our partnership with North Star has been an undisputed highlight for all of us
When we began our journey of launching Quarters Coffee back in January 2018 the task at the very top of our list was to find a coffee roaster to partner with who could not only offer incredible speciality coffee, but who would share our trade values, care more about people than profit, and who we felt ‘got’ the vision of what we wanted to build. We sent out a whole load of emails to our favourite roasters, made some calls, and tasted some unbelievable coffees (plus plenty of bang-average ones). From this very first point of contact, the team at North Star stood out a mile.
Firstly, the coffee samples were head and shoulders above anything else we’d tried. The Brazil Fazenda Rainha de Paz – that went on to become our first house espresso – blew us away, and we loved how prominent the farmer’s stories were in all the accompanying literature and online. We could tell this was a roaster who existed to champion the work of the growers, and we were down with that. Secondly, we appreciated how Ollie picked up the phone where most roasters dropped a generic note in the sample box.
In those months prior to opening our doors, the team at North Star went above and beyond. From talking through work-flow ideas as we designed the fit-out, to advising on our launch coffee menu, to even having a little gander at our proposed branding! Once we had a staff team assembled, Ollie made the trip down to carry out some extensive barista training, and even returned soon after for one of our launch events; pouring espressos, chatting to guests, and enthusing about the coffees on offer.
For us, we can’t imagine doing what we do without our partnership with North Star. When we dreamed up the idea for our little coffee shop we described what our ideal roaster partnership would look like, and joked that we were probably asking a bit much! What we’ve experienced with North Star has been far better than we could have imagined, and we’d encourage anyone looking for a roaster who is passionate about quality, taste, sustainability, people and ethical trade to look no further.

Little Perth
Having worked alongside North Star with our previous coffee shop in South Wales, it was a no-brainer to team up again when we launched Little Perth in 2021. We are consistently blown away by the quality of the coffees North Star source - keeping us supplied with tasty, interesting coffees that we know have been sourced through close working-relationships with the growers and a genuine focus on sustainability. More than this though, we’ve found North Star to be a roaster who genuinely put people first. From day one they have made us feel like part of their family - checking in on us, asking after the kids, visiting often for training and socials, and going above and beyond for us at any opportunity.
As relatively new business owners, we’ve also hugely appreciated the insights and support the team have provided on a business level. We’ve been the recipients of great advice on countless occasions, and opening a shop during a pandemic felt a little less intimidating knowing we had the North Star gang at the end of a phone!

We contacted North Star when we were looking at opening our own coffee shop in Jersey and from day one, the team were so helpful. As complete novices, North Star were on hand to answer any questions and talk us through everything, from how to set up the counter to get the best work flow, what machine to use, through to sending us videos and tips on milk frothing!
They come over to see us on a regular basis and it is reassuring to know that we have that guidance, support and we really feel like part of the North Star family. Our customers love the story of North Star and appreciate the consistent, great tasting coffee.
