"I’m really enjoying the Mexico Sierra Madre on French Press. It’s a great coffee to start my day with, as the french press adds a bit of extra body to my cup. That makes it a bit-syrupier in mouthfeel which complements the toffee apple, blackberry and toasted almond flavours really well. It’s just a really nice, balanced, easy-drinker of a coffee."

How Does The Coffee Perform In The Cup?

The aroma is warm and comforting, with roasted almond and soft caramel notes inviting you in before the first sip. Juicy blackberry brings a gentle fruitiness that lifts the cup without taking over, whilst rich toffee apple adds depth and a smooth, syrupy body carries everything through to a lingering roasted almond finish. It's beautifully balanced from start to finish, making it just as rewarding with milk as it is enjoyed black.

Why did we choose this coffee?

The coffees you drink most deserve just as much care as the ones you save for special occasions.

For years, coffees from these producer communities have helped shape one of our house blends, The Docks. They were so consistently delicious that it felt only right to give them a chance to shine on their own.

As demand grew, the answer wasn't to replace one producer community with another. Instead, neighbouring Zapotec and Mazatec farming families became part of the same relationship, allowing more producers to benefit whilst preserving the flavour profile that made this coffee such a favourite in the first place.

For us, that's what long-term sourcing is all about. Not constantly chasing something new, but continuing to invest in coffees and communities worth coming back to.

Region: Sierra Mazateca & Sierra Juarez, Oaxaca, Southern Mexico
Altitude: 1200-2000 masl
Varietal: Typica, Mundo Novo, Bourbon

Who produced this coffee?

Mexico Sierra Madre brings together coffees produced by smallholder Zapotec and Mazatec farming families across the Sierra Juárez and Sierra Mazateca mountain ranges in Oaxaca. Many cultivate less than a hectare of land in remote communities where limited infrastructure has historically made it difficult to access higher-value specialty markets.

Working alongside Red Beetle Coffee Lab and Raw Material, individual producer lots are carefully assessed and matched to create a fully traceable community lot that delivers the same balanced cup while returning greater value to the communities producing it. It's a collaborative approach that allows more farming families to become part of a coffee that's grown alongside the people who enjoy drinking it.

Packaging

Are your coffee bags compostable?

Our 250g coffee bags are made using compostable materials designed to break down in a well-managed home compost setup.

Our 1kg bags are currently recyclable LDPE4 plastic while we continue testing larger compostable alternatives durable enough for wholesale and larger-format coffee storage.

What if I don’t have a compost bin?

You’re definitely not alone. You can return your used bags to either our Roastery or Coffee Shop and we’ll make sure they’re properly processed through our waste partners. We know there’s currently no perfect packaging solution, but we’re committed to continually improving the systems and materials we use.

Can the bags be re-used?

Definitely. The zip-lock seals make them useful for storing everything from coffee and grains to snacks, cables or the random drawer bits everyone seems to accumulate somehow.
