"For the Burundi Washed, I would say that espresso is my favourite way to brew it. It's really smooth, really biscuity but there's like a subtle citrus fruitiness that comes through which is quite nice. I also think for that reason, it tastes great as an Americano and as it cools, the brew almost changes and becomes a bit more tea-like and floral"

How Does The Coffee Perform In The Cup?

The aroma is sweet and inviting, with notes of citrus, red apple and something that reminds us of shortbread fresh from the tin. In the cup, mandarin and lemonade-like brightness bring a refreshing lift, balanced by a little buttery biscuit sweetness and a smooth body. Black tea notes run quietly through the middle, helping everything land exactly where it should.

Why did we choose this coffee?

We chose this coffee because it captures everything we love about Burundi as an origin. For years, coffees from Burundi have been overlooked despite producing quality capable of standing alongside some of East Africa’s most celebrated coffee-producing countries. This lot brings together the sweetness, structure and clarity that keep drawing us back year after year. Alongside that, it allows us to continue supporting a partnership that invests in healthcare for workers and their families whilst helping fund the next generation of coffee trees across the region.

Who produced this coffee?

This coffee was produced by smallholder farmers delivering cherry to Izuba Washing Station in Kayanza, Burundi. Working alongside Raw Material, Izuba helps provide greater market access, quality premiums and long-term support for local coffee-growing communities, whilst investing in projects designed to strengthen the future of coffee production in the region. Through healthcare provision, producer support and tree rejuvenation projects, the partnership is helping create greater long-term stability for farming families across the community.

Packaging

Are your coffee bags compostable?

Our 250g coffee bags are made using compostable materials designed to break down in a well-managed home compost setup.

Our 1kg bags are currently recyclable LDPE4 plastic while we continue testing larger compostable alternatives durable enough for wholesale and larger-format coffee storage.

What if I don’t have a compost bin?

You’re definitely not alone. You can return your used bags to either our Roastery or Coffee Shop and we’ll make sure they’re properly processed through our waste partners. We know there’s currently no perfect packaging solution, but we’re committed to continually improving the systems and materials we use.

Can the bags be re-used?

Definitely. The zip-lock seals make them useful for storing everything from coffee and grains to snacks, cables or the random drawer bits everyone seems to accumulate somehow.
