Assam teas are amongst the most popular in the world and tend to be incredibly rich and full bodied with plenty of flavour. They are named after the region they grew in, Assam in north-east India. The varietal of tea is known as Camelia Sinensis var. assamica and it can grow at much lower altitudes than other teas.



Assam is the largest tea producer in the world, it is an incredibly wet region experiencing high rainfall during the monsoon region. The higher temperatures result in conditions that can mimic that of a greenhouse and these factors are thought to contribute to the unique malty flavour of Assam teas.



The Bherjan Estate is one of the only organically certified estates in the region of Assam and it is well known for producing some outstanding quality tea.
