This Coffee's Story

Goro is one of the seven washing stations of the coffee exporter Buno General Trading. Buno is attentively managed by Mr Abiyot who selects the producers he works with based on their interest in and alignment with principles of specialty coffee.

The Goro washing station is located close to the city of Hambella which stands at an altitude of around 2320 metres above sea level. Historically, this might have been considered too cold for coffee production. Happily, coffee here grows beautifully with slow cherry maturation contributing to outstanding character in the cup. The 12 producers who have contributed cherry to this lot have between 3 and 15 hectares of land - larger than many producers in Ethiopia. With larger parcels of land comes a slightly easier approach when making changes to harvesting methods, hence Mr Abbot's preference for working with them.

When tasting this lot for the first time, we were immediately hit with heady florals and were blown away by the clean cup character. There are notes of peach, mango, nectarine...the list goes on! Most interestingly is the lactic creamy finish which for us was reminiscent of crème-fraîche. We found this coffee at its absolute best in an Aeropress, though other paper filter methods will also do a brilliant job! It's tea-like character and light body mean it is better suited to be enjoyed without milk to really get a sense of what makes this coffee so special.
