It’s that time of year again folks! We are delighted to present the 2021 version of our much loved seasonal Festive Blend. It brings us such joy to know how these bags have become a part of your traditional celebrations and the whole team looks forward to the development of this blend each year to see what we can come up with.

As always, our inspiration comes from all the traditional flavours of the season. We think about the coffee you want to enjoy with your mince pie or stollen and the after dinner pick me up you need after too much feasting!

The overall profile is rich and bold with an exceptionally smooth character, being versatile and well balanced it will work well both black and with milk. We recommend this coffee for use with a French Press, Stove Top, Espresso machine or Aeropress to really maximise it’s character.

Details

Overall we wanted to create a blend that is rich and decadent using components that will deliver hits of chocolate, orange, dried fruit and spice. For that reason, we have chosen our Brazil Fazenda Rainha da Paz as the perfect base to this year’s blend bringing milk chocolate and roasted nut flavours to anchor and balance the resulting cup. This coffee is a mainstay of our offering and for good reason! Marcelo Montanari (the owner) is a pioneering coffee farmer committed to operating in a carbon neutral manner – quite a feat for a 300 hectare coffee farm.

Next we added a touch of the washed Peru we have featured this year from Antonia Mejia Paica, a 2nd generation coffee producer in Cajamarca in the northern highlands. This component has been crucial in adding depth by bringing a bit of complexity in the form of its cherry jam-like character and undertones of shortbread.

Finally, we have turned to the wonderful Jose Nolasco, owner of Finca Suita which is named after Jose’s granddaughter Suita Diaz Nolasco from whom we have sourced this coffee! Jose’s farm is just 0.6 hectares in total but he has managed to produce the most standout coffee by utilising the natural process. It is this component that ties everything together bringing that hit of festivity with its inherently bold character which offers notes of dried fruit and a hint of something boozy! When combined with the other components, we get real notes of mulled wine coming through – it took us a lot of playing around with the percentages of these coffees and we ended up going with the below option to create a well balanced and smooth drinking coffee with just the right amount of rich character for the ultimate decadent treat to enjoy amongst the festivities.

40% Brazil Fazenda Rainha da Paz natural

30% Peru Antonio Mejia Paica washed

30% Honduras Jose Nolasco natural

Best suited through metal filter methods such as Espresso, French Press, Stove Top and AeroPress (when used with a metal disc filter). Can be enjoyed both with and without milk.

Delivery Details

Local pickups take place from the Roastery on Tong Road. Please note our shutter doors will be down for security and temperature reasons but we are always in Monday-Friday between 9 and 5pm – just ring the doorbell on arrival. We are offering free shipping for orders above £20 🙂

Once you have placed your order, you will receive an email to confirm it is being processed and then another one to let you know when it has been dispatched. We are currently operating with a 2-3 working day lead time to process your order once you have placed it. If you have ordered a Nova Bakehouse cookie kit, this will be posted on the next available Tuesday along with any other items you have ordered.
