Want to work with us?

We believe what makes us different is the stringent dedication we have to ensuring our purchases from producers are as impactful as they possibly can be. There are many specialty coffee companies nowadays supplying great quality coffee with many of the services we can also provide but we firmly believe we are unrivalled in our unwavering commitment to our values and aims as a business. There is nothing that could make us compromise our approach to not only working ethically but to actively changing the way things are normally done to show other businesses there are alternative ways of sourcing that will drive more value back to the producer. We are involved on a global scale in initiatives that are working to change our industry for the better and it is this expertise that really sets us apart along with our genuine love for our wholesale customer base and our recognition that we are nothing without them.

Don’t take our word for it, keep reading to hear from the lovely folk at Quarters Coffee about the relationship we have built with them…

“When we began our journey of launching Quarters Coffee back in January 2018 the task at the very top of our list was to find a coffee roaster to partner with who could not only offer incredible speciality coffee, but who would share our trade values, care more about people than profit, and who we felt ‘got’ the vision of what we wanted to build. We sent out a whole load of emails to our favourite roasters, made some calls, and tasted some unbelievable coffees (plus plenty of bang-average ones).

From this very first point of contact, the team at North Star stood out a mile.

Firstly, the coffee samples were head and shoulders above anything else we’d tried. The Brazil Fazenda Rainha de Paz – that went on to become our first house espresso – blew us away, and we loved how prominent the farmer’s stories were in all the accompanying literature and online. We could tell this was a roaster who existed to champion the work of the growers, and we were down with that. Secondly, we appreciated how Ollie picked up the phone where most roasters dropped a generic note in the sample box.

Our initial conversation with Ollie wasn’t about what deals he could do on wholesale bags, or on the benefits of purchasing equipment through North Star.

He wanted to know about us, he wanted to hear the story of where Quarters Coffee had originated, he was instantly excited about our ethos, and we felt we’d made a friend. Soon after, one of our founders, Jack, drove up to Leeds and Ollie very kindly made time on a Sunday to sit down with him, sip on a delicious natural Rwanda on pourover (the Huye Mountain – so good it brought Jack to tears!), and share the North Star journey.

Decision made – we were sold. At this point we hadn’t had any conversations about prices, it just felt like a great fit for us, like family.

In those months prior to opening our doors, the team at North Star went above and beyond. From talking through work-flow ideas as we designed the fit-out, to advising on our launch coffee menu, to even having a little gander at our proposed branding! Once we had a staff team assembled, Ollie made the trip down to carry out some extensive barista training, and even returned soon after for one of our launch events – pouring espressos, chatting to guests, and enthusing about the coffees on offer.

We’ve now been open nearly two years, and our partnership with North Star has been an undisputed highlight for all of us.

They’ve become part of our little family, and we’ve felt part of theirs. We’ve held numerous cuppings and events in store, led by members of the North Star team, and hosted an evening on ‘ethics in the coffee supply chain’ that a room full of our regulars loved. We’re passionate about our staff pursuing continuous learning, and we’ve enjoyed regular training days with Ollie, and a fantastic weekend in Leeds at the roastery and academy with our whole team.

For us, we can’t imagine doing what we do without our partnership with North Star. When we dreamed up the idea for our little coffee shop we described what our ideal roaster partnership would look like, and joked that we were probably asking a bit much! In actuality, what we’ve experienced with North Star has been far better than we could have imagined, and we’d encourage anyone looking for a roaster who is passionate about quality, taste, sustainability, people and ethical trade to look no further.”

Coffee Equipment

Choosing the right equipment is essential to bringing the best out of the beans you buy. It is an investment that will hugely impact the quality of the coffee you can offer customers. It is therefore a decision that is not to be taken lightly – but with such a wide choice of machines available (new and second hand) it can be an overwhelming task!

As part of our role in running a coffee academy, we regularly test out new equipment and are kept up to date with the latest technology available. We are therefore perfectly positioned to help you find the best equipment and only ever recommend a machine based on its reliability, longevity and quality/consistency of the brewed espresso it produces. Most of the machines we offer can be viewed and demonstrated in our Roastery along with accessories to adjust your workflow and make your coffee service as efficient as possible.

If you have any questions about any of the equipment we supply, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We will be able to listen to your needs, taking into account your setup, and advise which option will suit you best. All of our machines and equipment are available to purchase outright or to lease on a monthly basis and we can arrange installation and service packages.
