About Us

OUR STORY SO FAR...

COFFEE UNITES PEOPLE.

We are a coffee company and family united by a love for great coffee and a desire to protect all it supports. We source specialty grade coffees from a valued network of producing partners, working with them to establish long term relationships based on trust, respect and the potential for positive future impact. We roast those coffees intuitively, coaxing out aromas that exist thanks to the unique terroir and post-harvesting techniques that have been applied. This ensures a cup full of character with maximum sweetness, minimal bitterness and plenty of interest, elevating the consumer coffee experience.

We aim to prove that an approach based on quality and impact can improve the viability of business models across the coffee supply chain. We have a vision of a more certain future for coffee, free from the volatility of the commodity market and resilient to the impacts of climate change. Join us in this mission and help to create a more certain future for coffee.

BUILDING A COFFEE INDUSTRY THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE

You might be wondering what we mean in stating that coffee as an industry is not working. With more interest than ever in ‘sustainability’ and the growth of certification systems such as Fairtrade, how can it be that we are still talking about this problem?

Despite the growing customer base of conscious consumers, the facts are:

  • Climate change has already started to make its presence felt with higher incidences of diseases such as coffee leaf rust affecting higher altitude farms and obliterating up to 70 per cent of yield.
  • Despite the rising costs of production due to climate change but also general inflation, in 2018 the C market price was lower for the coffee producer than it had been in 1982, causing uproar and protests across coffee producing countries.
  • Understandably, the average age of the coffee farmer has reached 55-57 with more youth moving out of the system having witnessed the instability and volatility of the industry experienced by their parents.

WE EXIST TO PROVE THERE IS A KINDER WAY OF DOING BUSINESS.

The industry needs to work better for those it relies upon the most – not only the producers growing and processing the coffee but also the baristas responsible for serving it. The hospitality industry has had its own battles with low pay, minimal opportunities for career progression or personal development and therefore high staff turnover. We believe the industry can become more aspirational with more equally distributed profits to remove uncertainty and work towards sustainability. We know:

  • the transaction doesn’t have to be rooted in colonial or commodified systems.
  • that quality demands social and environmental responsibility and, if we are to safeguard the industry’s future…
  • we need to look beyond sustaining the current situation to regenerating it.

regeneration

the act of improving a place or system, especially by making it more active or successful.
