Learn the essential barista skills required to get you started on your barista career. This one day course focuses on the key skills required to set your grinder correctly for service needs and how to create the highest standards of espresso. You’ll create milk textures for all of the essential drinks in the coffee industry and will meet the basics of latte art progression. The course also covers basic information on daily care of coffee equipment, and introduces professional standards for hygiene, service and management of recipes.
This session is ideally suited to people new to the coffee industry or those looking to gain an insight into the broad subject matter of Barista Skills. No previous barista experience is required. The course provides you with the key information to enable you to sit your Barista Skills Foundation certification that consists of 3 short practical tests and a written exam (15 questions with a pass rate of 60% required). Successful students will be awarded 5 points towards the SCA Coffee Skills Diploma.
During the course, you will have a chance to work in our purpose built coffee lab using the much loved La Marzocco Linea PB espresso machine along with industry-leading grinders such as the Anfim SPII and the Mazzer ZM. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
This course is for a maximum of 6 people and the cost does include VAT but does not cover the certification fee as this is dependent on your SCA membership.
All courses take place at the North Star Coffee Academy based at Leeds Dock. We are very easily accessible by either foot (15 minutes from Leeds train station), bus, car (multi-storey car park available on site) or water taxi which goes directly to and from the train station every 20 minutes. There is also a Holiday Inn on site for courses lasting more than a day.
