This contemporary seasonal espresso blend is all about showcasing the very best coffees from the most recent harvests taking place throughout the year. With frequently changing components, it aims to promote seasonal coffees that are chosen for their interesting and fresh flavours.
Version 11 is rich and syrupy in profile with hints of sticky fig and prunes, there are delicate notes of sweet apricot and florals too adding great complexity and character.
Please note we have enforced a price increase in line with higher green coffee prices that have come into effect due to changing currency exchange rates brought about by Brexit. For more information, please read our blog post here.
Czar Street is made up of the following components:
70% Guatemala Finca Los Recuerdos
Not only did this Guatemalan jump out for us on the cupping table, we are also delighted to be working with this farm as part of the Female Coffee Growers Project with Third Wave Coffee Source. Recent years have seen mass migration across Central America with many young males and families immigrating to the US – it has long been recognised that women play an extremely vital role in coffee production carrying out much of the harvesting whilst being denied access to market. It is becoming clearer that this approach is not one for the long term and that women must be invested in to ensure the sustainability of the industry.
We are proud to be partnering with Aura Escalante, owner of Finca Los Recuerdos – a stunning 4 hectare farm in Huehuetenango in the west of the Guatemalan highlands. Full of juicy fruits and caramel, this is a classic coffee from this region that is almost wine like in character, adding fantastic structure to this blend.
30% Ethiopia Kochere
We always get extremely excited at this time of year as new crop Ethiopian coffees start becoming available – as the birthplace of coffee they always promise flavours that are often hard to come by in other origins. Kochere is a village in Yirgacheffe in the south of Ethiopia, one of the most famous producing regions in the world. With altitudes of up to 2000 metres above sea level, this coffee has outstanding complexity and displays intense notes of peach and apricot. There are florals of jasmine and orange blossom too, this is a coffee that is almost tea like in character and has to be tasted to be understood.
We have chosen it for the latest version of Czar St as it adds a hint of the extraordinary, lifting the character of the blend whilst not overpowering it with harsh citrus acidity. It is soft and delicate and shows off the provenance of the coffee with the high altitude, heirloom varietals and meticulous approach to processing. It really is a stunning example of a specialty coffee.
