This contemporary seasonal espresso blend is all about showcasing the very best coffees from the most recent harvests taking place throughout the year. With frequently changing components, it aims to promote seasonal coffees that are chosen for their interesting and fresh flavours.
Version 12 is super sweet and contemporary in character with notes of honey, peach and complex citrus. There is an underlying flavour of milk chocolate which creates a smooth mouthfeel with good body and balance – a true showcase of the very best from the most recent seasons across the coffeelands.
Czar Street is made up of the following components:
60% Peru Fredy Bermeo
Being traditionally cautious with Peruvian coffee due to its fame for quick deterioration we have really taken our time to source what we feel is the very best from this year’s harvest. We are delighted with the flavour profile of this coffee and the fact it is coming to us from a young coffee farmer, Senor Fredy Bermeo, who is really stirring things up amongst his community in the northern highlands by focusing on quality coffee production. His efforts paid off last year earning him third place in the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition and turning the eyes of the coffee world in his direction. We found this coffee to be beautifully sweet and syrupy in character with soft stone fruit notes and hints of coconut and marzipan.
We are really excited to be working with growers like Fredy who are changing the mould of traditional coffee production in his country and think the results are really outstanding – this lot brings structure and balance to this latest version of Czar St which partners beautifully with the vibrant Burundi.
40% Burundi Dukorerikawa
Following a trip to Burundi last August as part of the Cup of Excellence jury, Hols returned with a determination to buy as much coffee as possible from this amazing produing country in an effort to raise the demand for its high quality lots and hopefully in turn the prices paid for them. Burundi is the fifth poorest country in the world and it’s coffee industry is somewhat behind that of its East African neighbours. There is a real opportunity here for coffee to bring about great change in terms of the country’s economic and social development but we need more consumers to realise the vital role it plays in the specialty coffee industry in terms of the amazing quality coffee it produces. The potato defect continues to be a challenge in Burundi as in Rwanda but we really do feel the benefits of working with these producers far outweigh the risks of the odd defective cup (if you want more info about this then get in touch!)
This is a classic Burundian coffee from the region of Bururi with tart and juicy citrus notes and layers and layers of complexity. It is stunning as a single origin and brings something super special to this seasonal blend which really lifts the flavour and consumer experience. We urge you to regard Burundi with new eyes and see the potential it holds for amazing coffee in years to come.
