Peru

As an origin, Peru possesses all of the necessary factors for the production of outstanding quality coffee with fantastic altitude, varietals and fertile soils. However, a focus on commercial and triple certified coffee (organic, Fairtrade and RFA) has meant that quality has traditionally been side-lined in favour of volume, blended lots. With an increasingly volatile commodity market and climate change related events on the rise, it has become ever pressing for producers in Peru to focus on specialty grade to stabilise their income. More recently, initiatives such as Falcon Specialty’s Blueprint program have been setup across the country to help realise the full potential of Peruvian coffee and bring about greater financial transparency for the producers that grow this high quality crop.

This Coffee's Story

This beautiful washed lot from farmers of the Ande Peruanos Coffee Producers Association, is yet another shining example of the positive impact Falcon Specialty is having on coffee quality in Northern Peru. We are now into our 6th year of purchasing Peruvian coffee through Falcon and fully support their push to protect specialty producers and prevent quality coffee from getting swallowed up by the commercial industry.

The Ande Peruanos coffee producers association is a non-profit social enterprise, established in 2020 in Jaén, with coffee farmers from coffee-growing families. They provide agricultural sector-related services to the 24 producers that contribute to Caserio San Antonio. Not only does this support help to improve economic income and quality of life, it also contributes to the sustainability of each member's coffee cultivation areas and wider environment.

This is everything we look for in a washed coffee from Peru with clean and juicy notes of sweet citrus, blackcurrant skittles and caramel, making this versatile coffee the perfect choice for both metal and paper filter brew methods.
